Assessing the Impact of Organic Contaminants of Emerging Concern on Key Marine Organisms.
MED-BIO investigates how emerging contaminants and climate change affect marine biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, and biological health. The subproject combines ecological, microbiological and ecotoxicological approaches to study marine microorganisms, plankton communities, shellfish, crustaceans, and fish species.

Goals of the subproject
- Characterise microbial communities in Mediterranean coastal waters.
- Investigate gene expression patterns related to pollution and climate stressors.
- Monitor antibiotic resistance genes and emerging microbial threats.
- Assess biological responses of fish, shrimp, copepods and bivalves.
- Develop biomarkers and experimental models for environmental monitoring.
- Study the combined impacts of contaminants, warming and acidification on marine organisms.
- Improve understanding of ecosystem resilience under multiple environmental pressures.
